ITINERARY
Saturday Sept 30: Aucklanders - depart BP Drury at 9.30
11am meet at Robert Harris Taupiri (off the Waikato Expressway)
Drive to Chris Empsom's car collection - 445 Pokuru Rd Te Awamutu - for lunch and a Derby Bentley photo shoot. Lunch will be catered - $22 pp
On to Matangi for a tour through the historic Matangi Dairy Factory. Harry Mowbray will tell us how the site has been rescued and restored and the progress being made on the development and repurposing of the site. Quench your thirst at the on-site boutique brewery and browse the eclectic homewares store.
Accommodation: Podium Lodge out of Cambridge (close to the Velodrome) is holding some rooms for us. There are 1 bedroom motel units at $189/night, Dinner will be catered on-site, with BYO alcohol for the evening. Podium Lodge is a new complex catering for groups and sports teams. It has a nice communal atmosphere, good parking and cafes close by for breakfast.

Sunday October 1st:
Breakfast at one of the cafes close by, then a back road cruise to the Te Aroha area.
First stop will be the Maritime museum just out of Paeroa for a cruise on the Ohinemuri and Waihou rivers. There's lots of maritime history in this area. The rivers will be at their best with all the spring growth lining the riverbanks. After the cruise we will have lunch at the museum. River cruise (incl museum entry) $45 pp, (museum entry only) $8 pp, lunch at the museum $20 pp
After lunch then head back to Te Aroha to visit Adrian Worsley’s sculpture gallery. If you have seen the horse and rider in Matamata or the bull in Napier you will know his work - gallery entry $10 pp
Those heading back to Auckland can leave from there. If staying on, dinner will be at a Cambridge restaurant.
Monday October 2nd: To be arranged. Hamilton Gardens, perhaps another car/heavy machinery collection. Lunch at Karapiro?
